This tour combines a cruise of the beautiful Otago Harbour, a one hour wildlife cruise with unrivaled viewing of the exciting diversity of wildlife which abounds around Taiaroa Head on the Otago Peninsula including the only mainland nesting place for Northern Royal Albatross in the world. You will also see New Zealand Fur Seals, rarely seen ocean birds, including other species of albatross; you may also see penguins, dolphins, sea lions and other marine mammals in their natural environment. The cruise includes commentary which includes details of the fascinating history and geology of the area.
Then on to a guided tour of the Yellow Eyed Penguin Reserve to see the rarest penguin in the world found only on the south east coast of New Zealand. A short bus trip over the farm takes the small groups to the reserve. While in the reserve your guide will lead you on foot through a unique system of covered trenches into viewing hides. Allowing access to the living areas and breeding grounds of this shy penguin, which provides the opportunity to witness and photograph undisturbed activity at close range. Medium fitness is required on this tour.
