This tour combines a local Akaroa Harbour Tour with some magnificent viewing and photo opportunities from both the crater rim and the hilltop, together with a unique opportunity to visit Barry’s bay Cheese Factory and a working sheep farm located within the Inner Akaroa Harbour Bay of Takamatua. Coombe Farm has been in the ownership of a singular family for several generations and runs several thousand sheep over an extensive hill block. At the farm you will witness the sheep dog round up the sheep and bring them into the sheep pens where you can touch and photograph. The farmer will explain about the sheep breeds, the wool and meat, before shearing a sheep in the woolshed. The afternoon visit will end with afternoon tea provided by the farmer’s wife in their homestead.
2.00 pm: Depart Akaroa for a local tour through the bays and up onto Summit Road providing magnificent views of both the entire harbour and the northern coastline of the South Island.
2.45 pm: Arrive at Barry’s Bay Cheese Factory for a tasting of some of their wonderful cheeses.
3.00 pm: Arrive at Coombe Farm for farm tour. Witness sheepdogs at work and a sheep Shearing demonstration.
4.00 pm: Afternoon tea in the homestead.
4.30 pm: Return to Akaroa township where your tour concludes. This will give you enough time to reunite with your Cruise ship before departure.
